Spear Online members now have access to a new COVID-19 Patient Education lobby video that explains practice sterilization and safety protocols.

Clinicians can email, text or stream the “Practice Protocols for Patient Health & Safety” video to patients to provide them with details on what to expect when they visit the dentist.

The video explains how dental practices adhere to strict health and safety guidelines for infection control in this “new normal” of dentistry and social distancing measures.

Included with membership to Spear Online, Patient Education videos empower patients to clearly visualize their conditions and feel like more active participants in the clinical co-discovery process, which enables you and your team to reduce friction from chairside discussions.

Patient Education lobby videos can be streamed to practice TVs via Apple TV and Fire TV Stick. A new customization feature allows you to create your own lobby video playlists with your own practice information and branding. Spanish-language closed captioning is also available.

New chairside Patient Education videos

In addition to the COVID-19 safety video, Spear has released three new chairside videos:

  • Alveoloplasty for a Fixed-Hybrid Denture
This procedure video shows how alveoplasty, or bone reduction, smoothens and reshapes the jawbone to make a well-aligned foundation for an implant-supported denture.
  • Water Flosser
This home care video shows how to properly use a water flosser and how it promotes oral health.
  • Oral Cancer Screening
This procedure video shows the signs and symptoms of oral cancer and how a screening is performed by a dentist.

New first-visit patient videos

Spear Online members also have access to five new Patient Education videos that provide a visual understanding of what a patient can expect when they get their first comprehensive exam, regular checkup, orthodontic exam, or dentures exam, in addition to a child's first visit.

The videos can be shown chairside on a tablet and easily emailed or texted to patients, so they have instructions accessible on their mobile device. Or you can print custom handouts for them to take home.

Find the new video resources by selecting the “First Visit” search filter on the “Chairside” tab of the Patient Education page. They are among nearly 200 videos that include overviews of conditions, procedures, home care tips, pre-op, and post-op instructions.

The five new first-visit Patient Education videos include:

  • Comprehensive Exam:
This video explains what's involved in a comprehensive exam, including the pre-clinical interview, the extraoral exam, and the intraoral exam.
  • A Regular Exam:
This video provides patients an understanding of what happens at a typical adult checkup or regular dental exam.
  • Orthodontic Exam:
This video provides patients an understanding of what happens at a typical first-time visit to an orthodontist.
  • Comprehensive Child Exam:
This video provides parents an understanding of what's involved when a child visits a dentist for their first exam.
