Do what you love and the money will follow. We tell young people this all the time when we are encouraging them to pursue a life of meaning and fulfilment. I believe that this is great, timeless advice. When you truly love what you do and you're driven by a passion that you couldn't ignore if you wanted to, the dedication to excellence comes naturally. The world has a way of rewarding those who demand the best from themselves. After all, you can make money in any number of ways. Why not do it in a way that honors who you are?

The same holds true even after you are established in a career like dentistry. It can be tempting to look for the latest or easiest shortcut that will give you a quick boost to the bottom line. But the best, most reliable, most fulfilling path to success is always going to be the one that is based on an uncompromising vision for what being a dentist means to you.

Insist on giving each and every patient the most comprehensive diagnosis you can. Do everything you can to help them value ideal dentistry, then deliver the best care possible at the level of value they are at now. Commit to a progressive, continuing education plan for you and your team to keep the passion alive. Do it because you love being a dentist. Do it because it is the right thing to do. Then watch the results fall into place.

Be the dentist you love. The success will follow.

I love it. I say these same words to my dental team all the time. We want to continue to grow our practice; and not by "selling dentistry." Instead, I explain that we need to do what's right, do it the best we can, and the money takes care of itself... and it does!
