The Champion Effect

You see it in sports all the time: A player goes from a mediocre team to a championship team and suddenly starts performing at a higher level. Presumably they had the talent all along; however, in this new environment with better coaches, highly-skilled teammates and greater expectations, they find a way to raise their game.

The same thing applies in just about any business, including dentistry. It’s another reason to always pursue the highest standards in your practice. Create an environment that demonstrates your commitment to being the best and chances are any person joining your team will sense that and respond accordingly.

Many times I’ve seen good hygienists and assistants become great performers when they’ve moved to a new practice that sets the bar high. It’s as if they suddenly discover new abilities. You can see the pride they have not only in themselves, but also in being a part of this high-performance team.

It’s all about creating a culture of success. If you want your people to deliver first-class patient care, you have to provide them the right context in which to work, one that says: This is a championship team. Only the best is good enough here.
