Course Objectives

This sequel to Spear’s TMD – Joints, Muscles, Occlusion and Posture workshop continues the investigation of the diagnosis and therapy for temporomandibular disorder patients. A larger percentage of time in TMD II is dedicated to the evaluation of imaging and cases. You will also learn how to plan the restorative phase of treatment for TMD patients. The use of technology in diagnosis and therapy will be discussed and included in exercises with bioresearch equipment available for exercises. Participants are encouraged to bring records for diagnostic discussion by the group.

  • More cases for image review
  • Reading and interpreting CT and MRI
  • Review of recognition of postural changes associated with TMD
  • How vision and the vestibular system affect TM disorders
  • Diagnostic equipment that may assist the clinician
  • Therapeutic equipment (cold laser and others)
  • Restorative considerations for TMD patients
  • Surgical support for TMD patients – when to refer to the surgeon

  • How to diagnose and apply appropriate therapy for selected TMD patients
  • How to set up a referral network for patients you cannot treat
  • How to select materials and design cases when restoring TMD patients
