Dr. David Barget

"All in all, I'd say it's a '10'."

Two years after becoming a periodontist in 1997, Dr. Barget joined a well-established practice. As a lecturer and clinical researcher, he understands the value of staying engaged with the profession at a high level, and the value of sharing that passion for excellence with colleagues. That's a big reason he has started not one, but two, Spear Study Clubs.

Dr. Ernest Orphanos

"My practice is at a new level since I started hosting this study club."

Dr. Orphanos graduated from dental school in 1992 and two years later became a periodontist at the age of 27, when he graduated first in his class at Tufts University. In 2010, he started a Spear Study Club; the experience has added a new dimension to an already distinguished career.

Dr. Greg Phillips

"I like the opportunity it gives me to be a leader in the dental community."

Dr. Greg Phillips is one of only two periodontists in Columbus, a community of about 38,000, 45 minutes outside of Indianapolis. He opened his specialty practice in 1992 (he had previously practiced for five years as a GP), and over the years he's come to some interesting conclusions about what makes for an effective study club.

Dr. Neil Sundheimer

"I'm seeing a definite increase in the number of complex cases."

Dr. Neil Sundheimer is an oral surgeon (and M.D.) who has been part of a two-location group practice since 1995. Over the years, he has been involved in a number of efforts to learn and grow with his referring dentists, but nothing has really delivered results the way his Spear Study Club has.
