Creating a Celebration Culture
What you are going to see in this clip was, for me, a very special moment that took place in The Winter Laboratory recently. As I watched this live at the time, I realized that what I was seeing was evidence of what makes us so proud of the people we have working there.
Every organization has a culture – a certain energy level and way of thinking that is obvious even to outsiders – and we all instantly recognize a winning culture when we encounter one. It shows itself in the pride the people take in their work, and just as importantly it shows itself in their capacity to celebrate and have fun. It’s the kind of spirit and confidence that every successful organization needs to get past the inevitable disturbances that challenge all of us.
As a leader, it is incredibly rewarding to see that kind of culture, and that kind of energy, in your team. It means they love what they do, they love being there, and they love being part of your vision. It is a culture worth nurturing and cultivating.
I’ll let the video speak for itself. I’ll just go on the record here as saying that this was one of the most uplifting moments in my life recently. And the lesson, I hope, is obvious: The value of the work you do is only enhanced when you take the time to celebrate.
